ARX Robotics, a German defence tech startup and Europe’s leading startup in unmanned autonomous land systems, announces the launch of ARX Mithra OS, the first ever independent AI-based operating system that can transform all military vehicles into intelligent, interconnected autonomous units. ARX Mithra OS enables armed forces to operate efficiently and transform existing vehicle fleets into digitally connected intelligent units, with seamless integration across different vehicle types turning them to optional unmanned and autonomous systems. With digital connectivity and flexible integration, ARX Mithra OS supports both manned-unmanned and unmanned-unmanned teaming for enhanced operational capability.
“The battlefield of the future is digital and will increasingly rely on unmanned systems. Yet, European armies continue to procure analog systems and vehicles as they have for decades—systems that will remain in service for many years to come. While technology and warfare have evolved, our fleets have not. To lead our armed forces into this new era, adaptability and modernization are the only viable paths forward, as replacing entire fleets is both impossible and unaffordable”, said Marc Wietfeld, founder and CEO of Arx Robotics. “We have achieved this with our software-enabled hardware and our Mithra operating system, designed for both unmanned systems and existing military fleets, bridging the gap between the old world and the new, future-ready one.”
Designed to meet the demands of modern defence, ARX Mithra OS brings next-level connectivity and operational flexibility by implementing Software, AI and networking capabilities to legacy systems. The ARX Autonomy Kit, as one of the possible applications enables armed forces to quickly and cost-effectively transform their existing vehicle fleets into digitally intelligent units. Through easy integration into a variety of vehicle types and the possibility of over-the-air updates, the solution offers maximum flexibility and scalability. Mithra OS multiplies operational capability, reduces the need for human personnel, and enhances troop safety through unmanned, precise operations.
„The increased willingness for military spendings after the Russian invasion is wearing off, states are setting different priorities or simply are running out of budget. Therefore, it will be key to not only invest in new technologies but to update existing material and adapt it to modern warfare. This is the only way to ensure robust defense capabilities for our armed forces”, said Lieutenant General (Ret.) Frank Leidenberger, CEO of BWI, the federal government-owned IT service provider and digitalization partner of the German Armed Forces.
Recent conflicts highlight the crucial role of unmanned, interconnected and autonomous systems in modern warfare within a tense global security environment. With European defence resilience dependent on technological sovereignty, ARX Mithra OS addresses urgent needs within outdated NATO arsenals and under-resourced European forces. Its features—such as the Legacy Autonomy Kit to transform vehicles into wingmen, the Interconnectivity & Swarming Pilot for connected fleet intelligence, and the Situational Awareness Suite for enhanced reconnaissance—equip armed forces with versatile tools for rapid modernization.
